Brief glimpses of city policemen and local notices
Fifty years ago Sharshail H Murray was featured in brief glimpses of city policemen. Officer Murray directed traffic at the Square Corner and spent three of his six years as a police officer there. He previously ran the first Standard Oil service station in Frederick and worked as a truck driver. He lived on Jefferson Street and enjoyed driving his wife and daughter Gloria on car rides after work. Murray’s lucky number was found in his cap. Mayor Lloyd C Culler received a letter dated March 18, 1997 seeking marriage and relocation plans to California. John J. Burdette sold his farm to Clara Hyatt Hodgden for $8,500, with possession to occur in the fall. Qualifications for a fourth annual foul shooting contest were announced by Alvin G. Quinn, who donated a gold medal previously and would present a silver statuette to the top free-throw shooter. Frederick County Commissioners asked Treasurer Mrs Charlotte W Yarrell to prepare a budget for auto license plate sales and space needs. Miss Misti Capri Clingan, daughter of Mrs Robin Clingan, celebrated her third birthday with a large party including many neighbors and family.
