Heroes of Winter Rendezvous Bike Rally Reach Flamingo Century
Frederick County athletes shine at the Winter Rendezvous in Homestead Florida with remarkable endurance feats. A 1 year old New Yorker completed the Flamingo Century after seven years on a bike, riding with his son and daughter in law. The son, now cane assisted after injury on crutches, rode to the 50 mile point in three hours, then his father followed 30 minutes later. An other rider overcame polio to log up to 70 miles with his club and has completed a century. A right arm prosthesis did not stop a rider from joining rallies across the East. An 81 year old rider earned the oldest rider award at Homestead and repeated his century effort despite hip replacement history. Weather and terrain forced adjustments but riders pressed on with determination.
