Deadline Near For Medicare Signups In Frederick County
Frederick County Commission on the Aging reports nine days left to apply for Medicare. Those 65 or older by Jan 1 must enroll by March 31 to qualify for July benefits. Blizzard Hits Plains Six Die
A spring blizzard swept the Plains causing six deaths—three in Nebraska, two in Wyoming and one in South Dakota. South Dakota's Black Hills saw up to two feet of snow as 50 to 70 mph winds closed central and western roads. A stranded school bus near Ord Loup City sheltered twenty nine children a driver and a teacher overnight. An expectant mother, aided by a wreck runner, reached a hospital after two cars stalled nearby.

Women Track Stars To Receive Key Medals
The Francis Scott Key Memorial Foundation will distribute 50 bronze Francis Scott Key medals at the AAU women's track and field meet. Secretary Richard D. Showers to Break Heat Wave in Frederick Area
Showers will end the heat wave after temperatures rose to 79 degrees Tuesday the hottest day since October. The forecast calls for a high of 83 this afternoon with Tuesday’s 7 degree high noted in prior days. Overnight low reached 50 after a 40 degree low yesterday. Two Injured In City Traffic Collision
Two county men were injured early today in a collision at the North Market and Third Street intersection. Grover C. Shaff 43 of Jefferson and Wilbur F. Cook 41 of Frederick City were treated at Frederick Memorial Hospital for lacerations and abrasions. Shaff, driving north on North Market at high speed, failed to stop for the Third Street light, ramming into Cook's car which struck the Cavco building. Shaff's 1956 car and Cook's 1965 sedan were demolished.
