City plans layoff of 1474 workers to meet spending cap
WASHINGTON AP Officials have announced plans to lay off 1474 policemen firefighters teachers and others for three months beginning April 1. Department heads may shorten or stagger layoffs to spread hardship while meeting a spending ceiling set by the House Appropriations Committee. In Mercersburg a Holstein cow gave birth to quadruplets on the Sisterhood Farm run by Junior Gordes. None of the calves survived beyond a short time. In Havana the ministry of education reports a rare quadruplet calf birth near Varalero Beach, noted as a farm life rarity.
