The American clipper T. F. S. Asace, long overdue since July 4 from Hong Kong, was towed to port by the Kasuex after eight hours at the wheel with crew stricken by scurvy. Six died. Captain Reed reported extreme privation and reliance on provisions from the Kasuex in a perilous rescue amid a northerly gale. The Oakes crew, also distressed, suffered multiple deaths during a gruelling voyage via Cape Horn, with Captain Reed and his wife guiding the vessel through successive typhoons and dwindling rations. repairs to the propeller and arduous towing operations followed.
In Cincinnati on March 22 whispers say a new chapter in Pearl Bryan’s murder may unfold. Friends of Scott Jackson and Alonzo Walling move to prosecute William Wood, Pearl Bryan’s cousin, alleged by Jackson to have seduced her and involved others. Wood has been missing from Greencastle Indiana for months. The Bryan family seeks his prosecution and a federal secret service pursuit is mentioned.
An old Detroit advertisement touts Salvation Oil as a decisive cure for sprains bruises and pains. Mrs Frank Juif of 518 Gratiot Ave credits the oil with curing an ankle sprain and recommends it for all pains. The ad claims Salvation Oil sells for 25 cents and asserts no rival works as promptly.
Washington March 2 The tariff debate in the House opens with a long session plan from 1 a m to 11 p m and dinner at 2 pm and 5 pm The Ways and Means Committee holds priority in amendments and can supersede others The talk centers on opening remarks by Mr Ding Chairman and potential replies by Mr McMillin or Mr Batley The Senate focuses on Anglo American arbitration treaty and expects prompt action on appropriations passed by the House

A story from Belgrade reports Albanians attacked a Christian wedding party after the bridegroom refused a wedding tax. Twenty people were killed or wounded, with Christians among the victims in an outrage at Teteva. Berlin march 22 the reichstag adopted by 245 to 91 the first credit a million marks for a new iron clad. The minority included Socialists radicals and German People's parties Poles and Bavarian Peasants Federation members. Later the reichstag rejected 204 to 143 the credit for the first cruiser and the second cruiser credit was rejected without debate.
Elsworth Batdorff of Minersville was killed at Lyte colliery by a coal fall while preparing a shot. Rescuers toiled nearly two hours to recover the body. Survived by wife and five children. This is his second bereavement after his first husband and child were killed similarly.

Mrs. Mary Skiffington, aged 102, died at her home in Woonsecket Rhode Island. Born in Ireland she had lived in the city for 40 years. She remained sharp of mind until death, dropping dead while walking about the house yesterday.

Morristown New Jersey March 22 James C Youngbleeed died yesterday from consumption. He entered the bar in 186 then served in politics being elected to the New Jersey assembly in 1874 and re elected in 1875. In 1880 he was elected state senator from Morris county serving three years. He was post Master of Morristown from 1591 to 1835.
Washington March 22 Henry C Payne of Wisconsin declined a foreign mission after two days reflection choosing to remain in domestic politics He was offered posts in Austria Russia Belgium and Japan Payne expects to be elected to succeed Senator Mitchell in two years.
Joseph Blanther, jailed in Houston after arrest in Valley Mills as the San Francisco murderer, reportedly took morphine in custody yesterday. A $3,000 reward had been offered. he was a schoolteacher and respected in the community.
Chicago March 22 A Lake Shore and Michigan Southern train explosion instantly kills engineer Alexander Franks of Chicago and fireman Edward B South. The engine is blown apart, wreckage scattered, passengers uninjured. Train had just left Englewood depot at about 20 mph with telegraph wires toppled around the wreckage. Officials seek cause as boiler and water questions arise. A separate Philadelphia note orders arrest of spectators in two fatal prize fights at German town avenue and Vine street.
Rome March 22 The Italian general election was in progress yesterday. Early returns show 72 ministerialists, 16 constitutional opposition, along with Radicals and Socialists. Elected include Signor Crispi Marquis di Rudini Admiral Brin Signor Luzzatti Signor Gianturco Signor Sonnino Signor Guicciardini and Signor Branca.
In New Broarick New Jersey on March 22 Judge Filbert S. Collins accepted a plea of manslaughter from Ard O. Newman, a boy linked to the murder of Frank Freister at Perth Amboy on December 7. The judge ordered the youth sent to reform school.
March 22 report from Bridgeton New Jersey states two year old Lulu Dreher died after chewing brimstone matches and her sister Rebecca, six, is in critical condition. The siblings obtained a box of many matches and suffered the ingestion.

Montreal March 22 Mr W Peters son of New Castle on Tyne England and connected with large English shipping interests signs a provisional contract with the Canadian Government for a fast trans Atlantic steamship service of four boats of 3608 tons each to be ready in two years and to steam over 20 knots per hour The subsidy to be paid by Canada is said to be 500000 per year and the British government is understood to be ready to contribute 250000 per year in addition.
