Sheriff county honored for high use of seat belts
The Maryland Department of Transportation honored the Frederick County Sheriff's Office and Frederick County along with 10 other groups for achieving 70 percent or greater seat belt use in the county. Transportation Secretary O James Lighthizer praised the teams for promoting belt use to save lives as part of a national effort tied to a 1992 target. The program requires validation from two observational surveys. Also noted: county students excel in the State Mathcounts competition with West Frederick Middle School and Gov Thomas Johnson Middle School earning high placements among 65 students in 16 teams at the Naval Academy.
