Salt water desalting eyed as future water source
A 1957 Fredrick MD digest argues desalting seawater could supply irrigation and urban needs. It notes current costs around $2 per thousand gallons, with brackish water projects promising about 40 cents per thousand. Congress funded $10 million in 1952 for national desalination research, now extending to 1966, signaling desalinated sea water as a future home supply.
