Bridge Repairs To Be Costly In Frederick County
Frederick County faces a large bill for bridge replacements as County Engineer Roger H. Willard warns officials to fund future construction of many new bridges over the Monocacy River and smaller county spans. He cites the Creagerstown Woodsboro structures as in especially bad shape and notes maintenance like cleaning and painting will not prevent eventual failure from overloaded vehicles. Willard testified in Annapolis that weight limits are unlikely this session, so the Roads Board will enforce limits on all bridges and owners assume risk for overloading. He warns any bridge could collapse under a light load due to metal fatigue, underscoring the need for timely action. Carroll Manor Grange observed its seventh founding anniversary Monday in Grange Hall with Tobias Zimmerman as toastmaster and Howard Fry introducing guests. Members and guests sang, spoke, and enjoyed performances, as plans for an April chicken and oyster supper were announced.

Richard Baltzell presided as toastmaster and two seniors Merkle Ramsburg Jr and Kenneth Burrier spoke on Farming in Frederick County and Contour Farming respectively. Music by Richard Morgan Kenneth Hillery Gilbert Berry accompanied the close with a flag salute. The report notes Canada is larger than the United States proper and Alaska combined.
