Ban On Sunday Sales Of Liquor Is Opposed
Baltimore March 2 Charles T. Leviness chairman of the Baltimore City Board of Liquor License Commissioners said today that passage by the General Assembly of a Sunday closing bill would mean a return of the evil smelling days of prohibition. He asserted the law would revive graft corruption and general disregard for law and order. The measure in the House of Delegates would prohibit sale of alcoholic beverages anywhere in the state between midnight Saturday and midnight Sunday except on railroad trains. Leviness said Baltimore residents would not tolerate prohibition even for a day or a week. He added that many would still seek beer on Sundays and depriving people of a glass on Sunday would be a deprivation of rights un warranted by existing conditions.
