Insurance commissioner approves doctor fee cuts in Maryland
The Maryland insurance commissioner approved an average 10 percent cut in doctor fees paid by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Maryland. The plan keeps BCBSMD midrange among 13 state insurers, with Blue Cross promising lower rates for policyholders and claiming monthly savings of about 1.3 million dollars. The Medical and Chirurgical Faculty of Maryland criticized the decision as arbitrary, while BCBSMD argued the move stabilizes the company and state rates for 1995 remain unchanged.
