Additional Anti Beetle Fund Sought for Maryland
A Frederick Maryland news item reports a push for more federal aid to combat the Japanese beetle, an imported pest harming 300 plus plant species. Delegations from Frederick and Montgomery counties met with Congressman J Glenn Beall to urge extra funds beyond Maryland's annual 98,000 200,000 program. The piece cites the beetle’s range, economic damage including 250 000 loss in Montgomery county corn, and Maryland’s cooperative control efforts with federal state and county agencies. An emergency is cited as existing funds are insufficient.
