Beef Combine Fined For Price Fixing By Missouri Supreme Court

Jefferson City March 21 The Armour Cudahy Swift Hammond and Schwarzchild Sulzberger packing firms were fined 25000 each and ordered to pay costs of about 5900 in a Missouri Supreme Court decision finding a beef price maintaining combine to outprice rivals. The ruling cites weekly price fixing rebating and uniform market prices across markets as evidence of an illegal antitrust scheme. If fines and costs are unpaid within 30 days the defendants face ouster from the state.

Plymouth and Taunton collide in fog killing six

In Long Island Sound the steamers Plymouth and City of Taunton collided in fog near Plum Island. Six aboard the Plymouth died and several were injured. One victim was a passenger. Investigation will determine responsibility. Several Italian steerage passengers on the Plymouth were reported missing. The Taunton’s bow rammed the Plymouth’s starboard cabins, tearing out staterooms.

In Georgetown Delaware on March 21 Elmer Collins faced cross examination after the state closed its murder case. A neighbor testified hearing a man say I will kill you before morning near the Collins home as the victim Ilda Collins lay dead on the farm. 10 Per Cent Increase Shorter Hours In Some Cases

The Coal Strike Commission report released by Provident Roosevelt on March 21 condemns no union recognition but urges a general 10 percent wage rise for miners and laborers, reduces some hours, mandates arbitration for future disputes, sets minimum wages with a sliding scale, prohibits operator discrimination by union status, and orders awards to hold until March 1, 1906.

Altoona March 1 The second bituminous district coal miners won an eight hour day after weeks of hard work. A wage scale was signed with 10 to 19 percent increases for various mine jobs while pump and monthly men retain current pay. Outside mine workers gain 19 percent with a $14 daily minimum for trappers. No Saturday half holiday observed except holidays and funerals.

Chicago dispatch reports Selz Schwab & Co shoe workers were dismissed after a lone fireman went on strike for union wages. The striking employee, paid 12 14 cents an hour, joined the Brotherhood of Stationary Firemen which demanded 28 and a half cents. Plant closed until further notice.
