Garden Club meeting and community notices in Friv area

Frederickites abroad and local society news

Mr James McSherry of Fast Second Street sails for a month in Europe. Mr and Mrs Matthew Clark Fenton Jr return from Europe where their son St Thomas Trail Fenton USN wed Simone Lopes Curval near Paris in January. The Fentons were abroad three and a half months. Mrs Fenton was Beatrice Trail before marriage. Mr and Mrs Donald L Brachey and Mr and Mrs Raymond R Ratajczak attended the 13th Mad Hatter's benefit party in Baltimore on March 14 raising funds for American Cancer Society and National Kidney Diseases Foundation. Mme Marilyn Kehne of Yellow Springs and Betty Irene Palmer Ratajczak are noted. Mrs Carl O'Hara of Adamtown observes her birthday Monday.

Easter 59 Flower Show Promises Unusual Bonnets Display

The Easter 59 Flower Show at the Francis Scott Key Hotel Monday features bonnet divisions with hats of fresh flowers and hats of fruits and vegetables. Entry blanks arrived from Federalsburg, Gettysburg, and Martinsburg. Judge selections include district and local club members from Frederick area Garden Clubs with several exhibitors and staging by Mrs. Byron D. White and assistants.

Zonta hears outline of Crippled Children treatment center

Mrs Eliza beth McElroy executive secretary of the Ease Seal Treatment Center explains the center aims to help handicapped people become self supporting. The Carroll Frederick and Washington counties program provides therapy for children and adults with speech and physical disabilities with fees on a sliding scale and Red Cross volunteers aiding transport.

Women's Clubs Plan County Art Show

Six local women's organizations begin preparations for a second county wide art exhibition to be held May 16 and 17 at West Frederick Junior High School. The event follows the enthusiastic response to last spring's venture and is sponsored by the Frederick Civic Association.

Birthday party honors Mrs. Florence Waskey at Grace United

More than 125 well wishers filled Grace United Church of Christ Tuesday night for a Fidelis Class dinner honoring Mrs. Florence Waskey on the eve of her birthday. Local dignitaries and many class members attended. Delaine Hobbs sang two selections. Chief Charles V. Main directed entertainment and gifts included a three tier cake.

Community groups join Frederick exhibit planning panel

Entries from the public are invited for an exhibit planning committee formed by Civic Club and several others including Mrs. Paul G. Johnson and Mrs. Charles Baldwin. Entrant requirements will be available at the C Burr Artz Library and Rice's Color Center and published in The News later this month. The new junior high school will offer more space than last year's exhibit at North Frederick Elementary School.

Women club dinner reviews state legislature updates

Mrs Mary Lowe Smith presided at a dinner in the Wedgewood room of the hotel. The program featured former State Senator Edward Dills and a discussion of proposed bills including driver merit systems, with Boy Scout George Cramer speaking on scouting impact. Legislative chair Mrs Martha Reynolds led the committee.
