Polio vaccine field tests in Maryland may be delayed
Baltimore March 19 The State Board of Health says two conditions remain unmet delaying Montgomery County polio vaccine field tests planned for this spring. Tests were to start March 29 with 15 000 pupils in grades 1 2 and 3 in a three shot series. Authorities caution delays possible while safety tests continue. If postponed, preparations will carry to fall with a pilot study in Pittsburgh prior to county trials.

Start Investigation of Hydrogen Explosion
Washington March 19 a congressional investigation into the immense hydrogen explosion at the Pacific test area on March 1 has begun to determine if adequate safety measures were taken. Rep Cole chair of the Senate House Atomic Energy Committee said the panel has started questioning AEC members behind closed doors to see if avoidable errors were made by the science and military task force. The inquiry will shape how much information is released later. The probe follows demands from Reps Price and Van Zandt for a full scale review of why 315 people were exposed to radiation near the blast area. Twenty three Japanese fishermen burned and 28 American technicians and 264 natives far from the blast were exposed to milder radiation. Early reports suggest the blast may have been three to four times larger than anticipated, with power estimated between 600 and 700.

Runaway teens traced to California ad offering help
A newspaper ad placed by Mrs. Murray A. Reynolds of San Bernardino drew two sisters aged 14 who ran away for fun. They used fictitious names and refused to reveal real identities. Their mother was alerted through the father who contacted Judith Barrett, the former actress and mother of one girl. Police reported dyeing hair and attempting to pawn jewelry in Riverside while planning a meeting, signaling broader concerns over youth running away. The incident prompted discussions on water pollution risks and future sewer costs in Maryland communities, with the State Planning Commission seen as the likely agency to address the issue.
