Six Hundred Thousand Miners Plan April Walkout
President John L. Lewis announced that six hundred thousand union miners in the anthracite and bituminous fields will quit work on April 1 unless a wage settlement is reached. A wage negotiations committee was formed in Hazleton, with Alvan Markle as chairman and James A. Cierman as secretary, to pursue talks. A partial crew will stay to pump, engineer, fire, watch, and assist to prevent mine flooding and protect properties.

Miners Call April 1 Work Suspension Amid Coal Strikes
In Shamokin Pa the general wage council orders a suspension of operations in the anthracite field starting April 1. Bituminous frames will erase April 1 due to operators refusing to meet miners. Soft coal operators store large anthracite quantities in the hard coal region as lines of loaded bituminous cars clog the Philadelphia and Reading tracks. The Bancroft colliery will resume operations per the Philadelphia and Steading Coal and Iron company. A separate incident in Neaquehoning Pa reports a man with moonshine causing goats to rampage after the newspaper saturated with the liquor.
