Nine plate-glass windows in the Ridley & Son store on Grand Street New York valued at 5000 were smashed Saturday morning by bricks and cobbles unknown. The firm suspects the act was in response to a refused request by the Early Closing Association to stay open until seven instead of six to serve workers leaving late.
Andrew Peterson, a 1882 congress delegate and avowed polygamist, faces trial in Salt Lake City for registering and voting under the Edmunds law. Chief Justice Hunter seated seven polygamist Mormons on the jury, including a man with three wives, all swearing divine law supersedes Congress. Peterson admits marriage under Mormon law but claims it was a proxy for eternity rather than a temporal union.
A man named Adam Baumgartner aged about 49, a German shoemaker with intemperate habits, was found in critical condition near Jackson and West streets in Baltimore. He died at the station house. coroner declined inquest due to death from intemperance and exposure. Interment to be at city expense.
