Rockfish Outlook Dims for Chesapeake Bay Fisheries
Annapolis AP report on Chesapeake Bay rockfish or rockfish spawn in 1980 ranking among the lowest on record. W Peter Jensen of Tidewater Fisheries Administration warned prospects for the next two to three years look poor, citing declines in shad, herring, and striped bass while noting chlorine from sewage plants may contribute. He outlined actions including dechlorination at 132 plants, temporary equipment during spawning season, and a bill to raise rockfish size limit from 12 to 14 inches to protect juveniles.
