Vacancies Loom in County GOP Slate Before May Deadline
Indications today show county Republicans expect to fill some vacancies on the county GOP ticket by the May 5 deadline. They have no candidates for state attorney, state senator, county treasurer, or delegates to the state convention, and are one short of a full six candidate ticket for the House of Delegates. Democrats lack only two candidates for the state convention and are likely to fill these positions. Law allows party Central committees to fill vacancies up to 19 days before the primary, suggesting May 4 as the decision deadline.

Montgomery County Votes to Complete Silver Spring Inner Loop
The Montgomery County Council approved continuing the inner loop around Silver Spring's downtown to ease traffic flow. Cameron and Fenton streets will be extended and widened from Gist Avenue to Philadelphia Avenue. Land condemnation could cost about 250000 dollars, opponents argue it's ill timed amid business slowdown. A public hearing addressed the Woodmont Triangle project, with redevelopment of a former residential area into commercial space between Old Georgetown Road and Wisconsin Avenue. Street widening to 40 and 48 feet includes Norfolk Street Delray Avenue and Auburn Avenue with parking facilities, supported by local property owners and no opposition.
