Costa Good Boxer But Needs A Punch

New York Vt All Carmelo Costa a 3 foot 44 inch Brooklynite needs is a punch and he could rise right to the top of the featherweight division. His record shows only three knockouts in his 25 victories and last night he hit Joey Lopes with everything he had. Costa won the round bout in Madison Square Garden and won it easily. But he could do no more damage in Lopes than a cut eye. Carmelo who is only 20 years old was a puzzling style and baffled Lopes who came in at 134 pounds the same as Costa although he is natural lightweight. He impressed the International Boxing Club to the extent that Managing Director Harry Markson announced plans to match Costa with Raul Macias of Mexico City who won the NBA version of the world bantamweight championship two weeks ago after he stopped Chamren Songkitrat in San Francisco.
