Flood Hits Point of Rocks Area Prompts Red Cross Relief
In Point of Rocks residents and stores faced a severe flood along the Potomac. Red Cross relief work organized through Washington and the Montgomery County chapter mobilized food and supplies, with 142 people rescued and several homes and churches inundated. Rowboats aided families marooned on Island Field and nearby houses, as water rose twelve to fifteen inches per hour and submerged the rail line.
