County school construction plan for 1996 funding

The county reviews enrollment projections to decide additions and timing for schools. Proposed 1996 funding includes 800,000 for portable classrooms, 787,000 to upgrade science labs, 600,000 for a central high school land, and 370,000 to design Deer Crossing Elementary. Several projects are deferred to later years, including 220,000 for phase two at Catoctin High, 750,000 for Singanore High air conditioning, 185,000 to renovate Gov Thomas Johnson auditorium, 400,000 for open space walls, 275,000 to improve Hayward Road offices, and 125,000 to repair Frederick High track. The plan prioritizes capacity projects, with maintenance to take a back seat, and the district plans to appeal some recommendations. The Capital Improvement Program will be finalized for April 3 and voted on in June.
