Debate over hospice patient transport to hospital
Debate centers on EMS and hospice care when EMTs transport terminally ill patients to hospitals for non cancer related issues. EMS coordinator Michael Smith warns of potential negligence claims while Dr. P Gregory Rausch of Hospice of Frederick County urges careful handling. A tentative protocol, to be finalized within a month, aims to prevent horror stories by clarifying who supervises and makes final decisions during transport.
