Ban on commercial fishing extended in coastal Virginia

Virginia Board of Health extended the Kepone fishery ban in the James River and its tributaries through June, with only one vote against. The board kept the year-round ban on striped bass and croaker, and barred commercial fishing for spot grey trout and bluefish from July 1 to December 31, while eel catches would be restricted unless kept in Kepone-free waters for at least 90 days. The 1975 Kepone contamination led to broad commercial and sports fishing suspensions.
