Candy projects lift family life in small New York village
In Castleton on Hudson, two homemakers Margaret Helms and Joanne Van Beusichem run home candy businesses that have become major family income. Helms built a 7000 pound annual operation from cake crafting to candies, aided by a supportive husband and children. Van Beusichem specializes in novelty candies while balancing day care work. Both describe the business as a creative, practical American dream that enables time with family and future plans for full-time work.
