The Susquehanna Coal Company informs that operations in the Shanoeia region will be limited to three days per week. The notice specifies reduced mining activity and scheduling adjustments for workers.

Charles Cook, seventeen, and two accomplices aged twenty and twenty one were arrested in Wheeling for the murder of Charles Bennett whose body was found in the Ohio River. He was lured to a park by Lila Zane and killed on the river shore after a failed robbery attempt. Authorities say they confess to the crime and a verdict of death by hanging was demanded.
Rear Admiral Charles S Sperry assumes command of the Atlantic Fleet for a July departure from San Francisco to circumnavigate the globe. President Roosevelt approves the move with cabinet support. Rear Admiral Gans is relieved after the San Francisco trial voyage ending mid March. Admiral Bryan retires in August. Rear Admiral Thomas to lead the fleet on its Puget Sound visit.
William Plockney Whyte, longtime Maryland figure and U.S. Senator, died at age eighty three in Baltimore after illness in Washington. Born 1824, Whyte served as comptroller, governor, Baltimore mayor, and held multiple posts before his final term ending March 3, 1909. He was the last survivor among senators who opposed the fifteenth amendment.
Mrs. Magdalena Wagner eighty died after falling from the third story front window at 1525 Diamond Street Philadelphia as she rose for air. Living with her son in law William H Marshall she had been ill with grip for weeks and her nurse had left the room briefly before the fatal accident.
Miners surrounding Elkins threaten to lynch two Italians, Joe and Lewis Farro, following the murder of two miners Walter Fogg and G W Averd. Fogg was stabbed seven times and Averd three times and shot twice. Assailants fled, and authorities fear execution if captured.
