Twelve Men Drowned Rescuers Lose Lifeboat Crew at Monomoy Point
A lifeboat crew from Chatham and Harwich perished rescuing men from the stranded Wadena barge off Monomoy Point. Captain Marshall N. Eldredge and eight others died. Lemuel Ellis survived after Captain Dimer Mayo of the John G Fitzpatrick aided him. William H Mack of Cleveland, tied to Boutell Towing, also perished.
