Botulism toxin eyed as treatment for crossed eyes
Researchers at Fort Detrick outline a five minute puréed botulinum injection dubbed oculinum to relax the stronger eye muscle and straighten the gaze. The method could replace many surgeries, with results lasting as long as the toxin wanes, and trials ongoing at Smith Kettlewell. The drug remains unapproved for children under 10 and long term effects are under study.
