Radical shifts urged in home design for energy savings

Dr. Dan Lufkin warned Frederick County Homebuilders Association that future housing must adapt to energy conservation with geographically tailored designs. He noted heat control, new living spaces, and solar use limits, urging ground up systems and cautioning on payback costs.

Emmitsburg Historians plan incorporation and grants

At a March 9 meeting the Emmitsburg Historical Society voted to pursue incorporation led by attorney Joseph N. Welty. Chata Carr was appointed to start proceedings. Papers for IRS tax exemption were filed by Adele Topper. Kathy Plumb outlined Maryland Historical Trust funding for real estate, via grant or loan. No real estate purchase decided. Community support for capital improvements was solicited. A March 23 meeting will feature William Culp Darrah of Gettysburg PA with a slide lecture on Photographs and Local History.

Wildlife shrub packets offered Saturday in Maryland

The Maryland Wildlife shrub program returns to provide seedling packets for habitat improvement. Costing $2 each, an eight-seedling packet includes two dogwood, two autumn olive, two crabapple and two Scotch pine, about 12 inches tall. Distribution is first come first served on Saturday March 18 from 9 am to 2 pm at the Lewistown Fish Hatchery.
