Trusties Get Key By Paying Guard $1,000

Baltimore in March 16 two Navyland Penitentiary trusties who tried to break free paid about $1,000 for a duplicate gun locker key to a guard. Ernest Wilson 34 of Dundalk and James B. Casey 42 of Detroit were sentenced to 10 years each. Casey had one month left in a four year larceny term. Wilson was close to parole eligibility. Defense and prosecution noted their good prison records.

Maryland House Considers Comic Book Reading Study

Annapolis March 16 The Maryland House backed a resolution by Delegate Mary Nock to study comic book distribution and its effect on youth reading. The measure urges a legislative inquiry, citing 15 million weekly comic book copies and proposing council interim committee review with PTA and civic reps, reporting to the February 1950 session.

Washington March 16 A three cent postage stamp to commemorate the 300th anniversary of Annapolis Maryland received presidential approval today.

Railroad sues four unions over maintenance work at B and O yards

Baltimore, March 16. The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad filed suit in Circuit Court naming four unions as defendants to settle which class of workers should perform maintenance on car retarder systems at Cumberland and Willard yards. Unions named are Railroad Signalmen, Sheet Metal Workers, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, and International Association of Machinists. The railroad seeks a judicial decree and states it does not recognize union control over B and O work assignments.
