Tax Reform Bill Clears House Hurdle In Maryland
The Maryland tax reform bill advances in the House of Delegates after amendments. The plan would replace the flat 3 percent with a 2 to 5 percent graduated income tax and direct much of the 282 million in added revenue to counties for education. Frederick County gains about 148,000 in added state aid this year, with funds allocated to current expenses, construction, and kindergartens. The compromise preserves a property tax credit for homeowners aged 65 and over, a point of contention with Baltimore officials.
