Mostly Fair Weather Seen Across Midwest and East
The Midwest and parts of the Rockies to the Atlantic coast saw clearing skies and lighter winds with warmer trends, though snow flurries and showers persisted in pockets. Blizzards previously hit Minnesota and neighboring states, while many communities faced school closures and cold snaps extending to the lower Great Lakes. Wet conditions also reached the Pacific Coast as temperatures ranged from below freezing to the 60s in the south. Pledge by Methodist Women’s Division reached 1,266,078 for 1957 58 projects and six delegates were named for the St. Louis assembly.

Maryland Legislature Debates Teacher Pay Increase
The push for higher teacher salaries threads through the Maryland Legislature as both chambers form subcommittees to study the issue. Del Blair-Lee Silk leads the House panel with a recommendation due next week, while Sen Edward Northrop heads the Senate group reviewing money bills with focus on pay. Education officials seek an 800 boost over two years, with likely smaller allocations debated. Maryland Teachers Association Secretary Mason Raver predicts possible approval of 400 for next year, though action may extend into the next session amid partisan tensions over funding and alleged pressure tactics.
