Falls From Wagon Breaks Arm In Burkittsville

Lump Sum Payments Average 35.55 In Md

Hagerstown March 16 Pay ment of claims for lump sums under the old age insurance plan of the Social Security Act averaged 35.55 in Maryland during February. Charles E. Bailey, manager of the Hagerstown Field Office announced. During February 258 claims were certified for payment, totaling 46,594.38 by the end of the month. The largest claim was 1,001.67. Mary land’s 1937 Christmas seals fund from this county reached 1,619.72, under the Maryland Tuberculosis Association with Dr. E C Kefauver as seal sale chairman for Frederick county.

Funeral services for Dr. Walter S. Harban 81 were held Tuesday at his home 201 Wyoming avenue N W where he died Saturday Officiating clergymen included Bishop Edwin Holt Hughes of the Washington district Rev Dr Frederick Brown Harms pastor of Foundry ME church Rev Dr Holt Hughes of Indiana Pa and Rev Dr G Ells Williams district superintendent of the Baltimore Conference of the Methodist Episcopal church Dr Harban a prominent retired dentist was at one time personal dentist to President Theodore Roosevelt.

Roosevelt and President Cleveland were close friends of Dr Harban who died while serving as vice president and director of Union Trust Co. He led in hotels and golf circles, once vice president of the American Golf Association, retired from dentistry in 1908, and was a Howard County native.

Gov Nice and Board to pick site for Md State Office Building

Annapolis March 15 Gov Harry W Nice and the Board for Public Works planned to select two definite sites for the new state office building at an April 6 quarterly meeting. The board deeded options on the College avenue site for comparison with the 332951 dollar valuation of the proposed State Circle site. Both sites and others proposed to Annapolis residents were considered, but no final selection was announced.

Good Will Luncheon At Urbana Methodist Parsonage

A Ladies Aid luncheon was held at the parsonage home of Rev C S Robinson. Twenty five lunches were served followed by a social hour and the Ladies Aid Society meeting led by President Mrs Jennie Kidd. The program included singing and scripture reading with responses to roll call.
