Snowstorm snarls I-70 traffic near Hagerstown in Maryland
A heavy wet snowstorm disrupted Western Maryland causing a massive I-70 pileup west of Hagerstown and numerous crashes in Frederick County. Eight to four inches fell, with Emmitsburg noting eight inches. Schools closed, Hood College canceled activities, and snow plans operated countywide. State crews mobilized with 900 workers. 18 were hospitalized from the I-70 crash, four in serious or critical condition, none local residents. Detours redirected traffic as wreckers faced heavy jams lasting hours.

March 1993 Storm Repeats Historic Snow Pattern
A March snowstorm from the west joined a large weather system sweeping the region. Heavy wet snow piled up in West Virginia, western Maryland, and southern Pennsylvania as warmer Atlantic air fought cold Canadian air. Forecasters warned of rush hour disruption in Baltimore and the D C area before the system moved toward New York and Boston.

Maryland to require nutrient plans for hog farms soon
Maryland will mandate nutrient management plans for all hog farmers to curb pollution of rivers and streams. The program sets fertilizer amounts and timing, with 2,000 plus hog operations in scope.
