Heffner Guilty and Doctor Fined in Contempt Ruling
In a jury-less session Associate Judge Kathryn J. Lawlor found 16-year-old Lewistown operator Clark E. Heffner guilty of assaulting his wife and carrying concealed weapons and not guilty of assault with intent to murder. Dr A G Bourne Jr was fined $25 for contempt after testifying about Heffner’s nervous condition. A neighbor’s character testimony was disqualified and Heffner described domestic troubles as motive. James Miller and Charles E Cooley Jr were involved in related motor vehicle case appeals with clerical errors noted.

Mr. and Mrs. J. R. L. Shumaker received a service certificate from Washington officials at Lovettsville Post Office as he retires after 42 years of service. He recalls horse and wagon days, drove a horse for ten years, and since then used 29 Fords. He worked under six postmasters, all but the present one having died. He served patrons in many ways and is wished many years of happy retirement as the Red Cross drive continues.
