Meat packers to produce books in price conspiracy probe

Justice Swayse told Prosecutor Gerven he would sign an order compelling National Packing Armour and Co Marin & Co Swift Co to produce minutes of stockholders and directors for Hudson county grand jury investigation into price fixing of food products. Order to be filed with the supreme court clerk and served on the corporations. The ruling sets a new precedent in the state.

Team Slips Into River Drowns Driver and Horse in Lehigh

In South Bethlehem Pa March 16 Paul Helmers local grocer was drowned when his team slipped down the Lehigh river bank. Alexander Legard narrowly escaped drowning as the horse also perished. Helmers body has been recovered.

Brother-in-law kills wife then shoots self

In Buffalo on March 15 John Conrad, urged by alleged indifference toward his sister in law Mrs. Jacob Conrad, shot and killed her and then killed himself. The 30 year old widow died instantly. Conrad also died at once. Authorities report jealousy sparked the tragedy.

Standard Oil Case Goes to Supreme Court Defense Launched

Washington March 18. Lawyers for Standard Oil Company argued before the Supreme Court against dissolution under antitrust laws. The case stems from a federal court ruling that the company formed an illegal monopoly.
