A physician praised Paine's Celery Compound as a perfected remedy not a patent medicine. Dr Edward Phelps and other doctors report it strengthens the system, purifies blood, and helps dyspepsia and insomnia restore health, with notable endorsements from John B. Dryden of the Frankfort Call.
In Lesington Tennessee on March 15 Sam Pratt shot and killed two men and wounded a third after a dispute over stolen liquor. John Lindsey Tom Hancock and Sam Hancock and Neil Murray were present when Pratt refused an offer to join a drink saying the liquor was stolen. Pratt drew his pistol and killed Hancock and then Lindsey. He fired at Sam Hancock missing, injuring Murray with a pistol ball. Pratt surrendered to authorities.
Indianapolis March 15 Charles F Farrell secretary of the Indiana Bankers Association attends a gathering in New York City with bankers from many states to discuss entering the money order field as a competitor to express companies and government. A uniform bank money order would be issued through a large New York house with branches in major cities. The proposed rate is one tenth of one percent, equaling 19 cents on $100 orders, about one third of express company charges.
Washington March 15 The Senate spent an hour in executive session on the Hague convention and ratified the peace treaty governing land and sea warfare. Debate centered on General Funston's capture of Aguinaldo and whether acts resembled legitimate warfare. The measure prohibits poison arms and treacherous killings and defines spies, clarifying who is considered a spy in the belligerent zones.
Eyewitness accounts describe a double tremor on March 15 as Shamaka in Trans Caucasia bulged and subsided, causing mass entrapment and debris collapses. About 20,000 sheltering residents faced hunger and fear while Red Cross and officials labored to aid victims.

In Williamsport on March 15 Chief Frank F. Stryker and Patrolman T M A Simmons fought at city hall after Simmons criticized the chief. Simmons was beaten, unconscious, with brain concussion and serious condition in hospital. Stryker fled. an arrest warrant issued. Also reported is King Howard and Queen Alexandra hosting an evening court at Buckingham Palace with royal guests and Impressive pageantry.
The House approved the postoffice appropriation bill including the rural free delivery classification. An amendment was added, and several bills for marine hospitals at Buffalo Savannah and Pittsburgh were also enacted. A Burleson resolution sought Secretary Hay’s facts on Dr Thomas and wife seeking Boer relief funds in South Africa.
In Altoona Pennsylvania on March 15 miners and operators held a meeting over 11 UMW demands. Five were rejected as operators argued market prices dictate wages. Pat Kilday vowed to seek justice, while James Kerr insisted the scale cannot be granted from top to bottom.
Evansville Indiana March 13. The old Lincoln farm in Lincoln City Spencer county will be sold for delinquent taxes after years of nonpayment. Officials plan the sale despite prior efforts to turn the property into a park or obtain congressional funding, with the Lincoln burial lot and family grave site noted on the grounds and a deed having been received years earlier.
San Antonio March 15 action against Christian C Nelson, sought on a complaint by alleged eighth wife Mary A Pathe of Trattsboro Missouri, arrested at a hotel with a woman said to be his tenth wife Mrs A E Milburn, whom he married at Fort Scott Kansas two weeks ago. Nelson about 45, well dressed with slight German accent.
London reports stir over Lord Wolseley departing for the Cape to rest and heal as rumors tie him to South African affairs. Officials say he cannot replace Kitchener but may advise or observe, while other whispers touch recall plans and promotions. A separate note confirms jewels stolen from St John the Divine Cathedral were recovered, and Treasury stops certain bond purchases in Washington.
