News from March 14 notes unconfirmed reports that Port Arthur may have fallen under evacuation rumors. Dispatches describe bombardments, dock and fort damage, and sightings of Japanese forces near Fenghuancheng. Shanghai witnesses fear Manchuria upheaval as Russians cut supply lines.
Official dispatches from Tokio claim Admiral Togo's fourth Port Arthur attack on March 10 as the most effective so far. A Russian torpedo boat destroyer was sunk and several others damaged while heavy bombardment of fortifications and the city continued for nearly four hours. The land bombardment proved largely ineffective due to terrain.
Admiral Togo reports Japanese torpedo flotilla opened effectively by fog and mine placement at the harbor mouth. Desperate battle followed with torpedo boat destroyers. Japan appears to have secured a clear victory. Command notes our squadron engaged the enemy as arranged.

New York March 14 The United States Steel Corporation annual report shows a cash due of 9 million from a bond conversion syndicate and a net earnings drop to 109,171,162 for 1903. The report notes improved properties, but a disastrous December quarter eroded dividends and revealed profits far below requirements for common stock payments.
In Donora Pennsylvania Bert Washington a 32 year old Black man shot his wife in the yard of the A M E Church then killed himself a few feet away. Jealousy and domestic troubles preceded the act which disrupted a church festival and caused panic among attendees. The incident occurred near the church door and the couple died within moments.
