State police report that two weekend wrecks injured 14 people and destroyed two cars with about 2200 dollars in damage. The first collision on O Possumtown Pike involved a northbound 1959 sedan and a southbound late model four door on a hill.

High Speed Chase Ends in Collision Injuring Fugitive and Trooper
A 15 year old fugitive and a state trooper were injured when a 15 minute chase from Hagerstown to Mt Airy ended in a collision near Mt Airy. John Ireland was treated at University Hospital Baltimore for neck and back injuries and released. A 13 year old juvenile from Winchester was treated for a broken rib and scalp abrasions and held for juvenile authorities in Frederick County Jail. Police said the chase began between 11:15 and 11:29 am on I-70 as speeds exceeded 109 mph with Frederick and Carroll County officers joining the pursuit. Ireland attempted a roadblock west of Frederick City, but the cars collided two miles from Mt Airy. The noncar trip between Hagerstown and Mt Airy normally takes 35 minutes.

Maryland Governor Marvin Mandel and Comptroller Louis Goldstein will visit Woodsboro on March 27 at the invitation of local officials to view a proposed public park adjacent to Woodsboro School. If approved by the Board of Public Works, the park would be developed by the town, the Glenn W. Eyler Post American Legion, and others with deed signing remaining. Time for arrival is not announced and a possible stop in Thurmont to survey a landfill site at Blue Mountain may follow.

Rock Creek Center To Open March 20 In Frederick County
After years of planning and a wind damage delay the Rock Creek Center for the handicapped will open Monday on the Shookstown Road site beside Waverley Elementary.
