Club Theft Convicts Frederick Bartender for Larceny

A Frederick Circuit Court jury swiftly found Pierre Edward Martel a local bartender guilty of larceny after trust in the disappearance of about $350 from the Jeffersonian Democratic Club. Chief Judge Patrick M. Schnauffer sentenced him to three years in the House of Correction, with the sentence dated from January 1. Martel claimed a stranger drugged him in Frederick and he awoke in Baltimore days later, unsure of the money and car. He described a push, a drink, and a long strange journey before reporting the loss and being linked to others in political circles and payroll discussions. The case intertwined with political figures and a missing cash box, while the State dropped a larceny count.
