Roofing On Soil Reduces Dampness
COLLEGE PARK March 12 Roll roofing laid on soil beneath basementless buildings cuts dampness that causes decay in sub-floor timbers, says Ray Carpenter head of the University of Maryland agricultural engineering department. Tests over 11 years by Forest Service show moisture control via soil covers reduces humidity and damp conditions, though dry rot and termites require other protections.
