No Jail Sentences In Gambling Case Returns Machines
State and city police seized pinball machines during a county wide gambling raid last month. Chief Judge Schnanffer and Associate Judge Anderson ordered most machines returned but not the punchboards and Lucky jars. Fines totaling 6100 were imposed on seventeen defendants. Burns faced 1300 plus costs. One defendant, Clifton Burns, received additional fines for book making and a gaming table interest. Most others were fined 300 plus costs for operating a gaming table. All but Burns were fined 300. Seventeen defendants were named with multiple establishments listed. Charges against thirteen others were dismissed with costs. Edwin F. Nikirk represents the defendants. Cpl. Snyder testified. All pleaded guilty.

Frederick County to host Legion Oratorical Contest
Michael Inman, son of Mr and Mrs Inman, a St John’s High School senior, will represent Frederick County at the American Legion 27th annual National High School Oratorical Contest for the Tri-County area. The event starts at 8 p.m. Friday at North Frederick Elementary on Motter Avenue, with entrants from Washington and Carroll counties competing for Western Maryland District and state finals in Baltimore on March 20. The contest focuses on the Constitution and amendments, with eight to ten minute prepared orations and three to five minute extemporaries. Cash prizes include a $25 savings bond, $400 at the state level, and $8,000 in national scholarships.

Robbery at Morgan's Restaurant Reports Over $100 Stolen
Police investigate a burglary at Morgan's Restaurant at 415 North Market Street after more than $100 vanished from a hiding place. Owner Donald Morgan notified headquarters this morning. Detective Lt. Ellis G. Carty commented on the missing money. An accompanying fire alarm at West Third Street drew West Independent and United fire companies to a mattress fire. Firefighters extinguished the blaze in 15 minutes with no injuries or damage.

Frederick County Seeks Second Circuit Court Judge
Frederick County lawmakers introduced a bill to appoint a second Circuit Court judge with governorial appointment until the next general election. If approved, the judge will stand for a 15 year term in 1966, while current judge Schnauffer’s term ends in 1973. Other measures include juvenile court consolidation, county inventory tax elimination, deer hunting restrictions loosened, and liquor sales reforms in hotels and restaurants.

Youth Found Guilty On Three Charges
A 17 year old Woodsboro boy, David Allen Price, led a state police chase on foot and was arrested Sunday night. In magistrate court he was found guilty on three charges: disobeying a police order, driving on a revoked license, and failing to obtain proper Maryland registration. He was fined $100 plus costs and 30 days in jail for the revoked license, $50 plus costs or 30 days for disobeying an officer, and a suspended $15 plus costs for registration.

Ohio River Continues To Climb
The Ohio River and tributaries raised flood risks across Kentucky and Indiana while retreating in three states. The river reached 45.9 feet in Louisville, 17.9 feet above flood stage, and was still rising. Damages include nine deaths and at least 110,000 homeless as authorities close floodwalls and evacuations proceed in Parkersburg, Wheeling, Huntington, Point Pleasant, and across southern Indiana with roughly 4,000 evacuees.

Snow Dims in Frederick County After Light Fall
Snow fell across Frederick County though accumulation was minimal as warmer air kept it from piling up. Some areas showed a white tint while downtown Frederick saw melting quickly. Temperature hovered near freezing with rain at times, swelling streams but no flooding reported. Potomac River was out of bank at Point of Rocks but low danger. Monocacy River higher than normal and Buckeystown area river bed briefly full yet no flood. Weather forecast called for stop of snow this afternoon and continued chilly but easing temperatures. The market meanwhile trailed after a four day rise to a peak.

City and State Police set roadblocks to recapture a young white man who escaped City Police at about 11 a m. Officers described Warren Huff of Trenton New Jersey as medium height about 150 pounds with light brown hair. Huff and William Stratford of Jersey City were taken into custody after a report of shirts and an overcoat for sale. Huff fled from a moving car on West Fourth Street and remained at large as of 2 p.m. The 1962 Chevrolet used by Huff was reported stolen from New Jersey.
