Truman For New Spending Program
A nine point plan proposed to President Truman by the International Development Advisory Board led by Nelson Rockefeller seeks a multi billion dollar overseas program to curb hunger and counter Soviet aggression. It calls for unified foreign economic administration, a 500 million dollar development fund, a new finance corporation, private investment incentives, and a 2 billion dollar private investment drive to boost production abroad.

Scenic Route Faces Split Opposition From Local Groups
In Bagerstown on March 11 opposition to a scenic highway along the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal route emerged from business and sportsmen. The Washington County Izaak Walton League chapter and the Hagerstown Chamber of Commerce led protests, arguing the 45 mile longer road would be costly and harmful to wildlife and canal heritage. Proponents cite historic value and tourism potential for millions nearby. The canal, unused since 1924, traces back to ideas from George Washington with completion in 1880.
