FourteenYearOld Kills Stepfather in Rockledge quarrel

In Rockledge near Jenkin town Jeremiah McManus, 40, was shot by his fourteen year old stepson William Shepherd during a domestic dispute. William, who intended only to frighten, fired after McManus advanced. McManus died minutes later. William was held for murder after a coroner’s inquest.

Packers Plead Not Guilty In Jersey City Indictments

William Edwards appeared for the National Packing Co Morris & Co Swift & Co and Armour & Co in Hudson county court Jersey City as corporations indicted for conspiracy to restrain trade in food prices. He reserved right to withdraw plea. Judge Blair and Judge Carey presided. Bond not required due to difficulty setting specific corporate damages. Prosecutor Pierre P Garven said trial date could not yet be fixed because several indicted individuals and firms had not entered pleas.

Trenton Street Railway Strike Ends After Riot and Settlement

A strike on the Trenton Street Railway is certified as settled. Agreement increases pay to twenty to twenty two cents per hour and commits future talks with workers. Rioting injured several, including a Philadelphia teacher on a car, before police and guards restored order.
