Three cars telescoped and a fire broke out, pinning trainmen beneath debris and exposing escaping steam. Victims included a woman rushed to a farmhouse and an engineer severely injured but likely to survive.
New York March 12 operators deny United Mine Workers wage and condition changes for anthracite fields. They propose extending the strike commission's terms for three years and refuse to recognize the union, citing open shop policy. They warn wage hikes would raise coal prices and reject changes to the conciliation board, urging no new sliding scale.
