Montgomery board approves plans for two Gaithersburg schools

The Montgomery County Board of Education approved architectural plans for Strawberry Knoll and Muddy Branch Elementary Schools set to open in fall 1988. Strawberry Knoll costs about 6.3 million and Muddy Branch 6.4 million, with prefabricated components reducing size and enabling future conversion to a community center if enrollment drops. The Strawberry Knoll site is on Strawberry Knoll Road, while Muddy Branch sits at Stonebridge and Quietwood drives in Gaithersburg, each housing multiple classrooms, a gym, art and music rooms, media centers, and specialty programs. The board also moved the highly gifted fourth through sixth grade program from Burning Tree Elementary to Bells Mill in Bethesda starting September.
