Odell Odellsoon convicted of assault and battery in circuit court
Everett Odell, 39, itinerant farm laborer, found guilty of the third assault and battery case in February term. The jury deliberated shortly before Associate Judge Patrick Schnauf. Odell had been ordered to stay away from the farm and to leave the state after prior offenses. McLeod, 75, testified Odell knocked him down, beat him, and fired a pistol that ricocheted over McLeod’s head. Odell claimed self defense and drunkenness, while the State highlighted the shooting and firearm possession that night. The verdict followed testimony from Odell and witnesses including his wife and stepson. The case location centered around the Crane farm near Ijamsville.
