Speech Fails To Aid Prohibition Ban In Farm Bill
Washington reports Farm bloc leaders say Roosevelt's address did not win votes to remove the prohibition on below parity sales of government commodities from the agricultural appropriation bill. They expect a preliminary vote soon, with confidence the ban will stand. Tarver and Pace defend the President's remarks as not altering the House fight. A separate note says the House approved a $60 billion debt limit hike and discussed a $7 billion tax plan including a possible retail sales tax.
