Paul Klipp, aged 80, a Civil War blacksmith who later retired to farming near Shookstown, remains highly active. Born in Germany in 1841, he served in the Union Army, witnessed Fredericksburg era events, and after the war established a successful blacksmith shop for thirty years before turning to a 100 acre farm managed with help from his son Maurice. He recalls local Civil War incidents, comments on modern fashion, and has a family of seven children from his September 12, 1875 marriage to Mary Korrel.
