Old Ossawattomie Boys and a Charleston Gift Tale
An 1860s Lewiston Journal reprints a tale about two Ossawattomie brothers who after learning of hardship in South Carolina gift their fortune to aid striking workers. The piece ties their act to a broader moral about generosity, noting a lack of contemporary newspaper coverage of the incident. The narrative references John Brown and a Charleston donation amid postwar distress.

Wrongheaded People and Odd Experiments From a Boston Herald Clip
The passage lampoons obstinate critics and misjudging minds, then shifts to a bottle experiment showing how air pressure can create a fountain from a vial. It describes a method using a heated jar and blotting paper to trap air, forcing water up a tube into the jar. A salmon anecdote follows, with Senate dinner chatter and tall tales. The piece also notes a horse loss, a Good Templars meeting, and local housing and medical advert.

Remarkable Labor and Cures Featured in Old Note Text
The fragmentary OCR recounts vast labor by heart and body, mentions remedies like Garrett's Balsam, liver pills, and a cough and consumption cure. It notes free samples at Steiner Brothers with dubious claims about infant sleep aids and a writing fluid for commercial use. The piece reads as a sale-like collage from a late 19th or early 20th century catalog.
