Bar Backs Request For Judge

Local Woman Among Three Finalists For Mrs Maryland

Mrs John Molesworth of Biggs Avenue is named one of three state finalists in the Mrs Maryland contest. Final competition is Friday at 9 am at Margaret Brent Hall. The other finalists are Mrs James D Arth of Bowie and Mrs Julian D Kinder of Hyattsville. The finalists will display home making skills at the University of Maryland. The 1964 Mrs Maryland will be crowned at 1 pm and depart April 2 for St Petersburg Fla to compete for Mrs America.

Tornado Warnings Spread Over Local Area

Weather officials issued tornado warnings across the region as warm and cold air clash. Frederick sits near the warning edge with 60 mile wide tornado zone along the line from Baltimore to Lakehurst. Heavy thunderstorms may bring hail and damaging winds. daily temperatures drop from 66 to the 30s tonight with a warm-up expected later in the week.

Yule S and L Checks Due Loan for Christmas Club Depositors

Local residents with Christmas club savings in the defunct Family Savings and Home Loan Association will receive checks around April 1. Receiver Saul I Stern says about 4,500 club checks totaling 446,366.08 will be mailed, with club funds paid before free shareholders. Principal assets total about 1,245,000 plus notes. tax losses cannot be deducted until final distribution.

Red Cross Bloodmobile to Visit Mount Saint Mary's Thursday

Mount Saint Marys College in Emmitsburg will host the Red Cross Bloodmobile Thursday from 1 p.m. to 5 30 p.m. in the Student Union Building. James A. Grove says walk in donors from the Emmitsburg area are urged to participate, following last year’s tally of over 200 pints.

Volunteer Firemen Banquet Draws County Crowd

About 250 volunteer firemen and their wives are expected at the Frederick County Volunteer Firemen's Association banquet Wednesday at 7 pm in Walkersville Fire Hall. A family style roast beef dinner will be served by the Ladies Auxiliary, followed by vaudeville acts by Cooke and Rose of Lancaster, Pa. Philip H. Beard chairs, with William Moore assisting. Ivan H. Loucks serves as president. Tickets available at the door.

Electric truck shown to PE board of directors in Hagerstown

The first Battronic electric truck assembled in Philadelphia was demonstrated for Potomac Edison Company directors here today. It operates between PE offices in Hagerstown on two 1,800 pound Exide Ironclad batteries, delivering over 50 miles with a 2,500 pound load. The truck, built for milk and mail routes, uses a British chassis with a Boyertown body and Exide batteries comparable to forklift power.

Sanitary district court case ends with multiple sentences

In Circuit Court Judge Patrick M Schnauffer sentenced a 22 year old man to not more than three years in the Reformatory for Males and his 19 year old pregnant wife to a two year suspended sentence for robbery with a dangerous weapon. Allen W Brown, 25, also got not more than three years. The trio, along with Mrs Barbara Poole and Raymond M Poole, were convicted for the November 15 1963 robbery and assault of Eli Alper of Frederick Junction. Poole drove the getaway car. Alper was tied up and robbed of about 200 to 245 dollars and other items. The gun was reportedly not loaded. The suspects were apprehended near Rail Road after a collision investigated by Trooper Richard E Cook. Alper identified Poole at the scene. Sentences suspended in a separate case for Wallace R Hite 37 of Brunswick for forgery and bad checks, with concurrent terms. Hite must seek psychiatric help at Winchester Hall. The court noted prior offense absence and intolerance for violence. The Drummitt case remained in process.
